Snow Days Solution

With all of the debate about schools closings due to snow many people, students and teachers alike were interested in the lack of snow days this year. Fairfax County has 14 snow days built into the calendar to use throughout the year. So far we have used one snow day out of fourteen this school year. There have also been four two-hour delays that many people thought should have been cancellations.

One person took action. Hunter Hickman of Reston, VA started an online petition to address lack of snow hours. The petition was a suggestion to the Fairfax County School Board to use five of the remaining days allotted for weather and add them onto our spring break. The reason the snow days would not be used to take days off the end of the year is that tests, exams, SOLs, and graduation dates are already set and taking days off the end of the year would throw off the system.

Adding the days spring break would give many students a rest from all the studying, homework, studying, stress, studying, and just school in general. The extra days would be used to give people time to spend with their family and friends.

If you think that this petition is worth signing then sign it. It may just get you an extra five days off school. And who doesn't want that?
