Volunteer Hours
Being South County students, we are responsible to generate over 40 hours of service towards our community. However, this is easier said than done. You may think you could just push it off to senior year, but what happens when you can’t find anything? Either you will find a job that has an age limit or you can pull it off due to other circumstances. Fairfax County has a section of their website dedicated to volunteer opportunities. Even better, they have a whole section dedicated to youth, 18 and younger.
Fairfax County offers many different options for everyone. If you enjoy animals, volunteer at the local Last Chance Animal Adoption Center to play with tons of fun, energized pups!
“It took me a while to find some places to go volunteer at but once I did, I have been having so much fun with the animals and workers. I learn so many things while still able to give back to the world,” said junior Landon Saihi.
Dogs not your thing, but happen to love history? Become a youth historical interpreter! This job entails you dressing up and going back in time to teach the audience about your life back in the day.
Still reading and not interested in any of these? Go to the Fairfax County website and search volunteer. There you can find tons of options ranging from working in a soup-kitchen to becoming an assistant at Kids Aquatics Center. Finally, make service fun by inviting your friends. Who knows they may even need their hours!
