New regions and conferences

This upcoming 2017-2018 school year will be accompanied with change. Changes include a new school year start date along with a new configuration of the sports region and conference. This school year South County was in the Patriot Conference along with Mount Vernon, Annandale, Lake Braddock, West Springfield, W.T. Woodson, T.C Williams, and West Potomac. In the new conference, South County will face Fairfax, Lake Braddock, Robinson, West Springfield, and Woodson. Furthermore, South County will be in a new region with Annandale, Charles J. Colgan, Fairfax, Forest Park, Freedom (PW), Gar-field, Hayfield, C.D. Hylton, Lake Braddock, Mount Vernon, Robinson, JEB Stuart, West Potomac, West Springfield, T.C Williams, Woodbridge, and W.T Woodson.

The conference and region are changing because Virginia wants to have four regions instead of two, and it will increase competition along with decreasing travel time.

Junior Cassidy Ragunas said, “I’m excited about the new conference and region because playing new teams always challenges the volleyball team, and it will be fun to watch every sports team play different schools.”

Student athletes hope the new conference and region set up will help South County win more conference titles, win more regional titles, and make more appearances at states.
